29.1.2016 - Maija recovering
It's my pleasure to say that Maija in well is making a full recovery, and today she resumed her singing duties! In the past week, she recorded some kick-ass keyboards for an upcoming songs.. we hope to get something out soon! We are also gonna shape ape now for upcoming gigs. Hope to see you at one very soon!
6.12.2016 - Maija injured, Salo gig cancelled
Unfortunately there are some very bad news: Maija has been injured in a traffic accident. Without going to details, on behalf of the band we can only wish and pray for Maija's full recovery. Our thoughts are with you, Maija.
In the meanwhile, we have no choice but to cancel our upcoming Salo gig, scheduled for December 12, 2016.
We have added a few gigs to the tour calendar - it's cool to go to Tampere and Salo for the first time on November 6th and December 12th! Accompanying us will be awesome bands - Gladenfold (Turku) and Neferion (Tampere) at Prockis, and Neferion will host us at O'Haras. Some new songs will be already featured at Portti, Turku, where we play alongside with the Hayleys and Sprague Dawley on October 16th - be there, let's fill the place with metal energy!!! After a more than a year of silence in here, below is a small greeting from us, hanging out this summer! We're jamming out on a few songs that we haven't released yet. Korpikuusen Kyynel has been busy all this time, with writing and pre-producing of new material. We will keep you updated and fill in on what has happened, and what is going on.

15.2.2012 - Rest in peace, Tonmi Lillman (1973-2012)
Our deep condolencies to the family and friends of Tonmi Lillman, who has passed away.
Korpikuusen Kyynel had the honor to meet Tonmi when he co-recorded and co-engineered Existing Exception EP with Jarno Hänninen at D-Studio, Klaukkala. Tonmi was a very relaxed and nice person to hang with, and working with him, if only for a brief time, was unforgettable for us. Rest in peace.

8.9.2011 - Unplugged show of 7.9.2011
Korpikuusen Kyynel played it's first ever "unplugged" show yesterday! The atmosphere was unique and sensitive, and the experience was very memorable for the band. The gig was special, and played as a quartet without a drummer. We had a lot of fun yesterday, so it's quite possible we will occasionally perform special acoustic shows in the future as well, only with a full band.

It is with regret that we announce drummer Leeni Mäkilä's departure from Korpikuusen Kyynel. This decision was carefully thought over by Leeni during the last year or so. The rest of the band were surprised to see this happen, but at the moment Leeni's musical interests are simply elsewhere and we wish her good luck in her next project.
The drummer's seat has now been left open, so if you are interested in joining Korpikuusen Kyynel, do not hesitate to contact us here: noperskeles (at) korpikuusenkyynel.com.
For the time being, Korpikuusen Kyynel will not be playing any gigs until a new permanent drummer has been driven in. Working on new music will keep us busy in the meantime! Stay tuned for updates.

"Really good work by a group that's, you know, probably better off
not picking names for bands (Korpikuusen Kyynel, which is too
difficult name for those who do not know Finnish, and too similar to
that of the much more famous Korpiklaani), but certainly knows how to
write music, at least judging by the 4 tracks included in this
self-produced EP. Sure, the songs are too few for a comprehensive
assessment, but if something well begun is half-way done, then I think
Korpi... um, these guys right here will really shine one day. The
Finnish heavy metal features are all there: a female singer, a glossy
production with a taste of pomposity right at the edge of being epic,
almost symphonical. Yet everything works much better than a typical
production from the Land of a Thousand Lakes: Because the interpreter

The CD is recorded by Jarno Hänninen and Tonmi Lillman at D-Studio, mixed and mastered by Samu Oittinen at Fantom Studio, includes four rich metal tracks with a total playing time of over 21 minutes, and is by all measures the pinnacle showcase of Korpikuusen Kyynel music! All of this comes in a jewel case packed with stellar artwork by Jan Yrlund of Darkgrove Design, complete with full lyrics and band photography by Teemu Jokela.

8.12.2010 - Opening track of Existing Exception will be released today!
The first track from the new Korpikuusen Kyynel EP - titled Prisoner of the Mind - will be uploaded to Korpikuusen Kyynel MySpace today!
Korpikuusenkyynel.com and our MySpace site are currently going through big updates to get accustomed to the theme of Existing Exception artwork, which is now complete. The tracks are now mastered, so we're getting ready for pressing! The tentative release date of the EP is January 10, 2011. Pre-order for 5 € by sending us an e-mail, and get a signed copy!
It was a bit of a special night for another reason too - our singer Maija Nyström was forced to cancel the due to health reasons. We still played the gig - with Leeni Mäkilä taking over lead vocal duties as well as playing drums! The show must go on, right?! Well we ended up having a blast, and in addition to the new songs perhaps we offered a very different show even for people who have seen us many times before.

The current estimation for the release date of the new Korpikuusen Kyynel offering - Existing Exception - is December 2010.. cross your fingers! Note that the poster of the upcoming November 24 gig (with Kivimetsän Druidi and Dotma) incorrectly states the gig as the EP release gig. This will unfortunately not be the case, and we apologize.
Meanwhile, the cover art has been finished. The art has been made by Jan "Örkki" Yrlund of Darkgrove Design, and it's indeed impressive! Go check out some of Örkki's art and you'll get a good feel of what's coming! We hope to be able to reveal the cover here soon.
Finally, starting today, pre-orders of the new CD are accepted. The price of the new album is 5 € (including postage inside EU), and pre-orderers will receive the CD fully autographed by the band. 23.8.2010 - Drums, guitars and bass recorded, vocals and keyboards postponed
The period of August 18th to 22nd was very fruitful at D-Studio, and we got all the drum tracks, bass tracks and guitar tracks (including acoustic guitars and guitar solos) down. Everything sounds really cool so far! Unfortunately Maija was unable to record any of her vocals, keyboards or tin whistle parts at this time due to a high fever, a sore throat and remnants of an ear infection. Because of the situation, we had to cut the recording sessions a little short after five days in the studio. The recording of the new EP will continue in September 6th, so just hold on to something for a couple of more weeks...
17.8.2010 - Korpikuusen Kyynel hits the studio
Korpikuusen Kyynel will travel to D-Studio, Klaukkala to record the new, yet untitled EP! The EP will contain four songs, and the release date will be somewhere near the end of September. Artwork and lyrics will be released on this site before the actual CD comes out, so stay tuned! We'll also shoot some video of the recording sessions, which will go on from August 18th to 23rd, 2010. It's about time we record something new, it's been almost two years since our first demo came out! Hell yeah!!

Gig number #20 has just been confirmed for Korpikuusen Kyynel! The show will be played in S-Osis, Turku on January 23rd, 2010 (Saturday). The band line-up for the show is amazing, as Raven Claw from Kuopio and Like Tomorrow from Eura will join us on stage! Raven Claw brings aggressive thrash metal to fellow head-bangers and beer-drinkers, and Like Tomorrow delivers female fronted cleverly constructed metal in orchestral precision! Korpikuusen Kyynel hasn't been out there for a while to play live, but now there will be two concerts in Turku during the next month (click here for complete schedule). We deeply regret to announce that due to a memorial service to be held on Saturday 31st of October in Jyväskylä, we are left with no choice but to cancel our gig in Rokkibaari, Turku. We wish to express our deepest consolidations to the family members in mourning, and apologize for inconveniences upon cancelling our show.
Alasin will replace us and perform together with Raven Claw in Rokkibaari on October 31st.

12.7.2009 - Joni Meriläinen is off the band
Unfortunatelly, we have to inform you that we let our brand new bass player Joni Meriläinen go, as he wasn't committed to the band. So this means we're now looking for a new bass player again. If you think you might enjoy playing bass and hanging with us, don't be afraid to contact us right away. The band is of course taking full advantage of this extended period without any live shows, working hard on new material that's gonna kick all of yer butts like hell!!!
1.6.2009 - New training facilities
Korpikuusen Kyynel is officially based in Turku, Finland as of today! We will be practicing in the center of Turku in a private space from now on, as opposed to the dear old training space we've used up until this point, located in Rymättylä. Although we do miss the old training space where the magic of Korpikuusen Kyynel has been happening from the start, this means we'll be able to spend loads of more time on the actual training and composing, instead of travelling. This change will definately also encourage us to train a lot more often from now on.

The third official review of Sense the Dreadful Presence was published at Imperiumi.net. The demo received 4+/5 stars, which further contributes to its critical success! We are very happy about the reception of the three-track demo and certainly feel extremely motivated to keep making more music.
The search is over - we are very proud to announce that Joni Meriläinen will take over the bass player duties in Korpikuusen Kyynel! The decision was easy for us to make, as Joni fits right in our crew and most importantly, the guy is a wicked bass player that truly inspires the rest of the band. We're really excited to bring the new line up to the stage very soon!

30.1.2009 - www.korpikuusenkyynel.com renewal has started
Our web page is currently experiencing a complete change. A new structure, added features and enhanced graphical layout will be implemented during the course of the next few weeks. The tentative new engine was completed, and the site will gradually gain its new looks. Today the news page was renovated and guestbook feature added! Check back often to witness the complete morphing of www.korpikuusenkyynel.com into a grander and cooler entity.
3.1.2009 - Bass player spot still open
One month ago, we announced the departure of our bass player. About half a dozen bassists have contacted us after that, expressing their interest toward the band. Some of the candidates have been very promising, but we have not filled the bass player spot yet. If you are interested, go ahead and contact us!
